It is time for the color guard to change. As summer comes to an end it is time to start moving on to the next season, fall. As the summer blooms begin to lose their vibrancy and petals fall unceremoniously to the earth we can focus on the season to come with its own impressive pallet. Fall containers have their own identity and give a home a completely new feel.
Traditionally, mums are the first plant to come to mind. Their profuse colors scream fall. While we are longtime fans of mums we like to mix it up with decorative cabbages and kales which are both colorful and long-lasting. Cabbages are delightfully chubby and cheerful plants while kales contrast with spiky, radical looking textures as if they are having a bad hair day. Both of these plants will take your containers through fall with style and beauty. As an added bonus, flowering cabbage and kale colors only intensify as the season goes on, especially after a frost.
Bold and beautiful, cabbages and kales are much more than a healthy thing to eat. With the addition of some bittersweet gourds, Indian corn, and pumpkins fall container color rocks on.
